Creating Web Accessibility
Janet Peters from the Great Lakes ADA and IT Center speak to us on creating web accessibility.

You may have heard about “Web Accessibility” but not known what it meant or why it is important to you. Web accessibility refers to the practice of making web pages on the Internet usable to all visitors, especially those with disabilities.

For example, a person who is blind can not “see” graphical images, but if a short description is provided his or her screen reader (a special software program used to read the webpage) can navigate the page. Many people with disabilities use only a keyboard or speech recognition software to use their computer instead of a standard mouse. If a hyperlink is created that can only be followed if you “click” on it, then the person with a disability can not access this information.

This presentation is an introduction to web accessibility, including tools and resources and legal mandates. Janet will show us examples and how tools in Flash can help us all become better and more informed designers.

In addition, we’ll take a quick spin around our website so that each of you has an understanding of where to post content and where to find valuable information. We’ll also discuss our new name and the changes and plans we have for the future. You’re not going to want to miss this!!!!

We hope to see you all there!!! And invite a friend!!!!
