'Last Days on Earth'

How smart are we as a civilization?

Smart enough to control our destiny and avoid the cataclysms that may end life as we know it?

I watched this on Wednesday night, very scary and eye opening.

Hit the website for more information.

green street hoodligans

I saw green street hooligans this weekend. I thought the movie was great.
It consisted of a bunch of english guys getting boozed up before soccer
games and then beating the hell out of the other teams fans. If anybody
enjoys soccer I recommend seeing this film.

Yeah right!

I talked about this already, but didn't post it. Yeah Right! is a skateboarding movie that has some simple, yet awesome effects. Quarter pipes and skateboards are painted green and edited out making the skateboarders look like they are riding hoover boards and olling up twelve stairs and grinding. see the film it is awesome, an Owen wilson shows how to skate. also i put an Xavier Rudd album in your mailbox todd and if you listen closely you will here a digerydoo. (the class says that's spelled right)

Shakira Concert- JUAN BARBA

I saw the Shakira concert on Friday night. I thought that I would be able to write about some interesting video art from the show but she really didn't have any substantial video running. The show was great and full of energy and focused mainly on the music. She only had one video that ran. It was very "artsy" and it went well with the show. It was her dancing ballet/indian style with another woman and it was a nice intro for her "ojos asi" and "hips don't lie" songs. Which are very dance oriented. She can move!

Skeleton Key

This past weekend i watched the movie Skeleton Key. The movie for me was a big step out of the norm for movies. Everything about the movie is unique. The bad guy, the twist, and the end. If you have not seen the movie I suggest it. Great watch.

District B13

First off, I'd like to say this movie was amazing. The movie begins with action and continues through out the whole movie with action. My jaw dropped on the few actions scenes and my jaw didn't go back up.... The post producing of the movie was outstanding as well as the footage that was shot. The movie takes place in London in a bad neighborhood, were the government built a wall around this district to keep the scum away from the rest of the society. That's as much as I'll let everyone know. A lot of great physical scenes are in the piece. I advice this movie for any movie watcher.

Family Values

I attended the Family Values tour at Alpine Valley Music Theatre this past weekend, which featured Korn. Since we just watched a video about the visual arts displayed during a Nine Inch Nails concert this week, I couldn't help but pay attention to the videos being played in the background of Korn's set. Although I didn't take the following video, you can see the type of visuals that I'm talking about, as it was taken at another venue on the same tour.

Idlewild Movie Website

Idlewild is a new movie that came out on friday. It stars OUTKAST and many other well known actors such as, Terrence Howard and Ving Rhames...I haven't seen it yet but I will very soon. I checked out the website for the movie and I think it's pretty cool. The official OUTKAST website is pretty cool too. - http://outkast.com/

believer

This weekend I rented the movie Believer starring Ryan Gosling. Overall
the movie was well done. Ryan Gosling is great in the movie. The ending
is not the best but efficient.

escaped convict

An escaped inmate suspected of killing a hospital guard and a sheriff's deputy is in custody, a law enforcement officer told a news conference Monday afternoon. Virginia Tech was shut down after William Morva, 24, was seen near the campus. Word of the arrest came just after Virginia Tech officials had warned students and local residents to stay indoors while the search continued.

saw this in cnn and thought it was interesting that it is possible to break out of jail. wonder how he did it

Talladega Nights

Interesting movie, but wouldn't recommand seeing it twice. Overall hype didn't live up to the movie when once I saw it. Only part that kept me going is because I'm a big fan of the character Ricky Bobby. He never gets old in the movie.

Isaiah

I really didn;'t see any good miovies but I did get some mini golf in up in WI! It was nice. Isaiah Seaborn

Black Hawk Down Documentary

I watched a documentary on the movie and book Black Hawk Down. Just see the conflict and the differences between all three is interesting to see. There are way more characters in the documentary than in the book and the book has ore than the movie. The documentary goes into great depth about the different conflicts that were going on at the time.

Cutie Honey

This weekend I watched an episode of an old anime series named Cutie Honey. It caught my eye because it was meant for all audiences even though it had some sexual images. I asked my Japanese host mother about this and she thinks there is nothing wrong with it. She called it ERO KAWAII which is cute erotica and is not meant to be pornographic, but cute. Another thing that was interesting to me is the big similarities between Cutie Honey and Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon used many of Cutie Honey's ideas. Cutie Honey is the pioneer I guess for the "magical female" character in Japanese anime.

Superman

I saw Superman returs recently and I was a little disapointed. I love Brian Singers work with x-Men but there were some parts in Superman that were jus cheesy. There was a part where these models of people were being destroyed and they were screaming. I just thought it was very cheesy.

Movies

I saw Step up and John Tucker must die. They both were good movies if your looking for fun. Although they are not the deepest movies you will ever see.
Isaiah Seaborn

Gion Bayashi

This weekend I saw an old Japanese film about the life of a Maiko in Kyoto. Since I've lived in Japan and have seen real Maiko, it was a bit nostalgic. Their lives are fascinating to me and this film allowed me to enter their world. They speak in a different dialect than standard Japanese. It is similar to the dialect I learned living in Osaka, so I was able to pick up words and phrases. I don't think I will ever bore learning about Maiko's lifestyle.

Movies

This weekend I saw 2 movies: Miami Vice & Pulse. Pulse wasn't really all that. If you want to see it then wait for it on DVD. The reason why I went to see it was because of their website.

Miami Vice was a good movie, not the greatest but it was entertaining for the majority of the 2hrs and 15 minutes of the film. Website is pretty good too...

Inside Man

I would have to tell people to check out Inside Man. They used alot of close camera angles to capture the action scenes, and sometimes the camera would go along with the characters to create the feeling of motion. Alot of low lighting was used to creat the feeling of mystery. Otherwise the plot of the movie was awesome and I liked the story line of the movie. I advise everyone to check it out. Good movie, Good!

Saw World Trade Center

i went over the weekend and saw world trade center. They used some very good special effects and did a good job of cutting real footage into the movie. I would recomend seeing it.

Arlington Park

I attended the annual Arlington Million this past weekend. For those of you that didn't know, its a huge event at the local horse racetrack in Arlington Heights. Being an Interactive Media Design major, one thing that caught my attention was the way to place bets. Traditionally, to bet you would go to a person, tell them the bet details and they would give you a ticket... I think. Anyway, now they use touch screen kiosks to place bets. There are probably hundreds conveniently stationed throughout the place. You just put in money (they even accept $100 bills), place bets, print your ticket and sit back to lose your money...how convenient.

Aeon Flux

I watched Aeon Flux this weekend. I thought it was a pretty kool movie. I think what caught my eye the most was the world created inside the movie. The fashion and home interiors especially. They used Japanese parasols along with futuristic clothing which caught my eye because it was the only thing that I could relate with from our time period. Also the house interiors were very much influenced my Japanese design. It was interesting to see that they chose to use Japanese elements combined with their new futuristic style.

Clerks 2

I decided since I liked the first Clerks movie that I would check out the 2nd installment this past weekend. While it was not as good as the first, in my opinion, it was still pretty good. The movie did not have any big special effects or crazy camera angles or anything, but seemed to hold the audiences attention through its dialogue, plus it was pretty funny. I would recommend seeing it.

World Trade Center Movie

Thursday i watched a special movie preview thing on the new movie World Trade Center. It was an open forum with a theater full of about 20 film students who were there to see a sneak preview of the movie and to ask questions of the director Nicolas Cage, a few other main characters, and one of the two gentlemen who were saved during the attacks. One thing that sticks out in my mind is a student says to the panel. He said that the movie wasn't good and that it was too early. That it was like pouring salt in his wounds and that it just overall was just a horrible way to portray the attack on the towers. I understand that some people may still be very sensative to this still but it has been five years and this young person didn't have anyone directly involved in this tragedy.

720 dunk...

sorry for posting so late...

Doing a 360 dunk is pretty difficult as is but a 720? What the?! This And1 basketball player named, "Air Up There", became the first to ever do a 720 in a game. All I can say is that this guy is sick!!! Check it out for your self.

You can also see this clip on youtube.com but the quality isn't all that.

C'etait un Rendezvous

This weekend I was hanging out at a buddy's apt. and I was handed this film, C'etait un Rendezvous, and was told that I must watch it. This movies creator hired an anonymous Formula 1 driver and told this driver to drive as fast as he could throughout 1970's Paris. The car is a Ferrari 275 GTB. This film is so intense because there are no special effects, edits, or blocking off of the streets. I don't want to give to much away because I will be bringing this film to class on Wednesday.
