commercial

I saw the new gap commercial the other day. I would have to say it was
a good combination of animation, after effects, and photoshop. Every-
thing in the commercial digital speaking is pretty simple and straight forward.
It shows how simple steps put together can create something so cool.

Joe - Extra Credit 2 - Microsoft Expression

There is a new multimedia/graphics suite by Microsoft in beta stages and set to come out next year. It's called Microsoft Expression and it looks very promising even in a beta stage. If you have a hotmail account, you can download the beta for free and try it out. Basically, its a suite much like Adobe Studio (Macromedia studio), where it has a program called Web Designer and is like Dreamweaver. It also has a program called Graphic Artist, which looks somewhat like a Adobe Photoshop or possible Fireworks. Finally, they have a program called Interactive Design, which seems like it would be something interesting to IMD majors except I have no idea how to even use the program. I don't think they'll be able to touch Adobe's Photoshop, but I think the Web Designer program looks pretty promising because it is fully integrated with ASP / ASP.NET web scripting languages.

You can check out the features or even download the beta at http://www.microsoft.com/products/expression/en/default.mspx.

music video

I saw the new music video for the all american rejects yesterday. It
is pretty much a copy of the audioslave music video chocise. It has
the fireworks consistently in the backround just like chocise. If you
ask me it is a rip off.

I saw the new gap commercial. It was a girl who begins to dance and then
jumps into a digital world. The commercial is well done in how they combined
digital effects with old film footage.

Over the weekend I saw the recent x-men movie. As far as effects go, it was much better then the past two. Action scenes were very well put together and had me going through the movie. Some of the shots there were captured by camera were amazing, I don't want to give out too much of the movie, check it out for yourself.

Janet Jackson Video

Over the weekend I saw the making of a new Janet Jackson video on BET's Access Granted. I really liked how they went behind the scenes and explained what will happen in each shot. When everything was done they showed the premier of her video. I thought the video was pretty cool BUT I wish they would've explained more of the post-production work. Although I really don't like the song there were some really cool things that happened and it would've been nice to see how everything was done.

Joe Extra Credit 1 - Itunes

It has been announced that starting next year, ITunes users will be able to download near DVD quality movies on the same day they are released to DVD. It will be able to be watched on one's PC and of course on an Ipod with video playback. Although I don't currently use Itunes, I think this will be a nice addition to the program. The only downside to it is that it can only be watched within the ITunes program or on a 3 inch Ipod screen. I guess if someone is technical enough, they can hook up their PC's to a TV, but what about those non-techie people? I guess they're stuck walking to blockbuster to enjoy a movie.

get together video- juan barba

This is about Madonna's latest music video animated and edited by logan. Since Madonna was in rehearsal for her confessions tour, no video could be shot. Logan used existing footage of a performance she did in london. I've never seen anything like this and I think it came out pretty kool. It was inspired by Italian artist, Milo Minara's erotic artwork. I don't see a resemblance, but I love the futurist city and the volcanic eruptions. There is so much to look at.

most people have probable already seen forty year old virgin already. But this

Tartget commercial- Juan Barba

I saw a new target commercial this weekend that I thought was pretty kool. The screen is divided in two, a young man on the left and a young woman on the right. They start off walking in place wearing underwear and then chang their clothes as a person would through out the day and the seasons. Both the man and the woman are making the same movements while their clothes just kinda morphs into the next style. They touch the dividing "wall" at the same time giving a kool effect. Target really appeals to a younger crowd and the commercial is effective.

today is 9/11. it still shocks me every year that 9/11 actually happened. and its one of those events that allows you to say, hey i was alive and knew what was going on.

i prety much just woke up that day to get ready for class and i heard the news on the radio about the first plane hitting. i didn't think it was real because my radio went to b96 and they always mess around. so i turned on the t.v. and on every news channel it was showing live. then i actually saw the second plane hit as people were filming it and it looked, no f**kin way.

im prety surprised how the media is so fast at getting things on the air prety much world wide. i was flipping through majority of the news channels and there was the different angles of the building on fire and it was surprising. like wow the media is doing their job

Pirates of the Caribbean 2

I saw this movie over the weekend and thought it was pretty good. I got there kind of late and was forced to sit toward the front and I paid for it later into the movie. There is a scene where Jack Sparrow and the other guy are fighting on this water mill wheel that disconnects from its station and begins rolling down a hill. While it was rolling the camera angles also moved in a circular motion and I got pretty dizzy from it since I was so close, but it was still cool. I would definitely recommend this movie.

Midwest Audio/Video Expo this weekend

Some of you might be interested in this, here is a brief explanation about the Expo click on the link for more info.

Midwest Audio/Video Expo

The east coast and the west coast have long been regarded as the preeminent spots in the motion picture industry. Thus, many people fail to recognize the resources and opportunities the Midwest offers.

To highlight the magnitude and importance of the motion picture industry in the Midwest, the Midwest Audio Visual Expo 2006 will be held in Chicago from September 8-10, 2006 at North Park University, 3225 West Foster (Kedzie & Foster), Chicago, IL 60625.

Midwest Audio Visual Expo 2006 will feature:

* Film Festival (very unique)
* Workshops (Interactive)
* Equipment Exhibit
* Panel Discussions
* Guest Speakers
* Summit Meeting

The expo's goal is to inform, educate, stimulate thought provoking ideas and media projects and provide a networking environment. It will serve as a venue where one can see new innovations in equipment and technology. It is intended both to offer information for those who wish to learn more about the industry and what it offers and to highlight Midwest talent and projects. Additionally, special emphasis will be placed on ethnicity, especially Asian Americans' emergence in the media.

"This Expo is designed to be different from anything ever done before in that it not only will showcase film equipment and new technologies, but it will also showcase emerging, independent filmmakers," said event founder, Man-Sung Son. "The Expo will serve to support and nurture local talent by offering a venue to educate, inform and encourage networking opportunities and thus breathe new life into the Midwest media market."........

Jbomb - Joe

I created a website recently for a friend about a project that he has been doing for ten years now, it's called "The JBomB." I don't have any real affiliation with it, but I figured that I would use the opportunity of making a website and practice my html and php/mysql skills. The site is at http://www.jbomb.info.

Michel Gondry & Spike Jonze

I watched these dvd's at home. I watched each video from start to finish because they interested me so much. I like how both directors use lots of memories from their childhood, which made every video feel like a dream. Gondry said that his father had trouble finding inspiration, but Gondry nor Jonze seemed to have the same problem. I think that because these two directors dream so lucidly there inspiration is found easier. I think that if we all find a way to our childhood memories and dreams about them something creative could come out of you.

World Trade Center Movie-Juan Barba

I watched it this weekend. I hadn't seen the preview so I didn't know what to expect. I didn't know it was about the story of two specific police men. It let you feel the importance of each life that was effected by the terrorits attack. It brought down the large scale of the attack into the lives of two men and their families. It was a great film.

FHM Europe compared to FHM America

I had read this weekend both fhm from america and europe this weekend. There were many differences in the two. The american version is more clean well a lot more clean than the european version. The european FHM has nudity even more scandalas clothing and in there articles they have more bad words and more sexual peices than in the american version. It was really neat to see the diffrences between the two cultures.

This has been one of the best movies I have seen in a very long time with a great story line. During the whole movie, other plots got involved and introduced unexpectedly. Yeah right!

I talked about this already, but didn't post it. Yeah Right! is a skateboarding movie that has some simple, yet awesome effects. Quarter pipes and skateboards are painted green and edited out making the skateboarders look like they are riding hoover boards and olling up twelve stairs and grinding. see the film it is awesome, an Owen wilson shows how to skate. also i put an Xavier Rudd album in your mailbox todd and if you listen closely you will here a digerydoo. Shakira Concert- JUAN BARBA

I saw the Shakira concert on Friday night. I thought that I would be able to write about some interesting video art from the show but she really didn't have any substantial video running. The show was great and full of energy and focused mainly on the music. She only had one video that ran. It was very "artsy" and it went well with the show. It was her dancing ballet/indian style with another woman and it was a nice intro for her "ojos asi" and "hips don't lie" songs. Which are very dance oriented. She can move!

Skeleton Key

This past weekend i watched the movie Skeleton Key. The movie for me was a big step out of the norm for movies. Everything about the movie is unique. The bad guy, the twist, and the end. If you have not seen the movie I suggest it. Great watch.

District B13

First off, I'd like to say this movie was amazing. The movie begins with action and continues through out the whole movie with action. My jaw dropped on the few actions scenes and my jaw didn't go back up.... The post producing of the movie was outstanding as well as the footage that was shot. The movie takes place in London in a bad neighborhood, were the government built a wall around this district to keep the scum away from the rest of the society. That's as much as I'll let everyone know. A lot of great physical scenes are in the piece. I advice this movie for any movie watcher.

I attended the Family Values tour at Alpine Valley Music Theatre this past weekend, which featured Korn. Since we just watched a video about the visual arts displayed during a Nine Inch Nails concert this week, I couldn't help but pay attention to the videos being played in the background of Korn's set. Black Hawk Down Documentary

I watched a documentary on the movie and book Black Hawk Down. Just see the conflict and the differences between all three is interesting to see. There are way more characters in the documentary than in the book and the book has ore than the movie. The documentary goes into great depth about the different conflicts that were going on at the time.

Cutie Honey

This weekend I watched an episode of an old anime series named Cutie Honey. It caught my eye because it was meant for all audiences even though it had some sexual images. I asked my Japanese host mother about this and she thinks there is nothing wrong with it. She called it ERO KAWAII which is cute erotica and is not meant to be pornographic, but cute. Another thing that was interesting to me is the big similarities between Cutie Honey and Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon used many of Cutie Honey's ideas. Cutie Honey is the pioneer I guess for the "magical female" character in Japanese anime.

This weekend I saw an old Japanese film about the life of a Maiko in Kyoto. Since I've lived in Japan and have seen real Maiko, it was a bit nostalgic. Their lives are fascinating to me and this film allowed me to enter their world. They speak in a different dialect than standard Japanese. It is similar to the dialect I learned living in Osaka, so I was able to pick up words and phrases. I don't think I will ever bore learning about Maiko's lifestyle.

Inside Man

I would have to tell people to check out Inside Man. They used alot of close camera angles to capture the action scenes, and sometimes the camera would go along with the characters to create the feeling of motion. Arlington Park

I attended the annual Arlington Million this past weekend. For those of you that didn't know, its a huge event at the local horse racetrack in Arlington Heights. Being an Interactive Media Design major, one thing that caught my attention was the way to place bets. Traditionally, to bet you would go to a person, tell them the bet details and they would give you a ticket... I think. Anyway, now they use touch screen kiosks to place bets. There are probably hundreds conveniently stationed throughout the place. You just put in money (they even accept $100 bills), place bets, print your ticket and sit back to lose your money...how convenient.

Aeon Flux

I watched Aeon Flux this weekend. I thought it was a pretty kool movie. I think what caught my eye the most was the world created inside the movie. The fashion and home interiors especially. They used Japanese parasols along with futuristic clothing which caught my eye because it was the only thing that I could relate with from our time period. Also the house interiors were very much influenced my Japanese design. It was interesting to see that they chose to use Japanese elements combined with their new futuristic style.

Clerks 2

I decided since I liked the first Clerks movie that I would check out the 2nd installment this past weekend. While it was not as good as the first, in my opinion, it was still pretty good. The movie did not have any big special effects or crazy camera angles or anything, but seemed to hold the audiences attention through its dialogue, plus it was pretty funny. I would recommend seeing it.

World Trade Center Movie

Thursday i watched a special movie preview thing on the new movie World Trade Center. It was an open forum with a theater full of about 20 film students who were there to see a sneak preview of the movie and to ask questions of the director Nicolas Cage, a few other main characters, and one of the two gentlemen who were saved during the attacks. One thing that sticks out in my mind is a student says to the panel. He said that the movie wasn't good and that it was too early. That it was like pouring salt in his wounds and that it just overall was just a horrible way to portray the attack on the towers. I understand that some people may still be very sensative to this still but it has been five years and this young person didn't have anyone directly involved in this tragedy.

Creating Web Accessibility
Janet Peters from the Great Lakes ADA and IT Center speak to us on creating web accessibility.

You may have heard about “Web Accessibility” but not known what it meant or why it is important to you. Web accessibility refers to the practice of making web pages on the Internet usable to all visitors, especially those with disabilities.

For example, a person who is blind can not “see” graphical images, but if a short description is provided his or her screen reader (a special software program used to read the webpage) can navigate the page. Many people with disabilities use only a keyboard or speech recognition software to use their computer instead of a standard mouse. If a hyperlink is created that can only be followed if you “click” on it, then the person with a disability can not access this information.

This presentation is an introduction to web accessibility, including tools and resources and legal mandates. Janet will show us examples and how tools in Flash can help us all become better and more informed designers.

In addition, we’ll take a quick spin around our website so that each of you has an understanding of where to post content and where to find valuable information. We’ll also discuss our new name and the changes and plans we have for the future. You’re not going to want to miss this!!!!

We hope to see you all there!!! And invite a friend!!!!

gateworld.net

this is a web site that was introduced to me from a friend and fellow sci-fi fan. this site is a place where you can go and get information on scifi shows the actors and even join forums. these shows are shows that range from Lost all the way to Firefly. I personaly am a memeber of the star gate atlantis forum and it is known to have actors and crew members from various departments to be members on these forums as well. So watch yourself. Just kidding this forum has actually lead to a very interesting and rare experiance for my roommate.
anyway this is a great site to find out what is going on with your favorite sci fi shows and read up on interviews or even share your opinion with others. check it out and be sure to let me know what you think.

Brokeback Mountain

Definatly would recommend this video to anyone. True it was long and it did touch on some stuff that people are not really comfortable with. If you think it will bother you too much don't go however homosexuality isn't paraded around in this film. Its a love story and it is a very beautifully well done story. The scenery is simply amazing however not overpowering. The camera shots are well done and the director draws you in to the story so fast that you feel attatched. There is nudity and ofcourse BRIEF sex scenes. if you get the chance to see it or if you feel uncomfortable watch it when it comes out. However do not i beg you let prejudices on subject matter sway you from seeing it.

Appleseed: Anime

i know a good deal of people do not like anime. Whether it be the color, the style, having to read, or you plain and simple don't get them. However there is something in anime for everyone. I would like to talk to you today about an anime that has been out for I believe a year (atleast to american audiences). It is called 'Appleseed'.
as far as technique is concered it uses a style known as cell shading. which is a technique where the color is done digitally and the drawings are i believe hand drawn. it is hard to look at at first because your mind really doesn't know how to process the image in front of you. you really aren't sure if you like it or not till you watch it a few times. The soundtrack really ads to the scences.
setting is in the future in a flying city that is humanities eutopia. our hero is a young female warrior named Dunan Nute who is brought to this eutopia as a recruted member of ESWAT. However you soon discover that even eutopia has its flaws when a new breed of racisim is born around bioroids (artifical humans) make up half the city's population.
simply amazing video that i would let anyone barrow at anytime. check it out.

Flash Earth

flash earth is a site created in flash that allows you to zoom in very close on certain locations. A similar program called Google Earth is downloadable (on pc only) that allows even higher resolution images, and even some 3D rendering. This is just a nifty little site to visit when you're looking to waste time.

Samurai 7

In Japan recently they released an Anime version of "Seven Samurai" called "Samurai 7." It takes place in the far future instead of the past. It follows the same story line so much still it says its written by Kurosawa. Give it a click and tell me what you think of it. I Have the first two episodes if anyone is interested.

I Agree! The movie CRASH is a Must See!

I had the opportunity this weekend to also watch the movie CRASH. To me, this movie gave true meaning to the words "It's A Small World."

"Oxygen Productions, like 2advanced, is a high end site developing company"

Basically I found this site through another site that lists new top flash oriented sites each month. This site was top on the list, and I felt this site to be a good example of how you don't have to get super complicated; just because you're well versed in flash doesn't mean you have to use it all at once. It shows how simplicity to an extent can really be more than it seems. I mean just because you know seven songs, doesnt mean they'd all sound good together in one piece. But this is really a good example of a business that profits from high flash contented sites.

Alright ladies and Gents, here's a few things for you!

alright ladies and gents i have a few things you might be interested in checking out. since i like movies we'll start with a recommendation. Its a Canadian Film called, "Treed Murray". I know I know the title doesn't really lock you to your seat with antisipation but put that aside and take a breif look at what is behind the title. a man while walking through a park gets chased up a tree by a 'gang' of 'punks'. after some words are shared and a few laughs at the rather unusual situtation you find yourself sucked in and the lines that seperate the good guys from the bad quickly lose tehir clarity. At first glance it seems to be a cheap rendition of "Phone Booth" however as the film progresses i personally found it to be a great deal better than "Phone Booth".
David Hewlett plays the part of our treed friend Murray. You may recognize him from Star Gate Sg1 and Star Gate Atlantis as doctor McKay.

i have a few more things you may be interested in seeing however i have to piece everything together so it will take a slight while. while you wait why don't you take a quick trip down to the video store or where ever you get your movies and check out Treed Murray or Get Down (American release title). anyway hope you enjoy.

~Ariel~

Sorry, couldnt get the title back!

I dunno if any of you guys heard of this site or not, if your myspacers...you probably have. you can search for any kind of video clip and even whole movies or tv episodes sometimes...after finding the clip, it will give you the html code to insert on your site...its just crazy how big their database is... they literally have EVERYTHING you could think of!

crash

over the weekend i watched an amazing movie that i think every one should check out. the name of the movie was Crash. it is about racial differences and how people treat other people of other races. i think that this movie is a real eye opener and brings some real life problems right to the surface. it is a good way to show us how we may treat people differently in our own lives and not realize how they are effected. Michael Goggin

Shadow

I like to hear about media that no one has herd of and is good. I started a blog on the subject a while ago but nobody went so I kind of forgot about it. But if your interested just click on the title.

Today I'm going to recommend a Chinese title called "Seven Swords" by a famous Chinese director Tsu Hark. The movie is based on a Wuxia Novel "Seven Swords from Mountain Tian" By Liang Yu Sheng. There is a link to the official web site below so if your interested....
To date you cant purchase this movie in the US but just go to eBay and you can get it for 10 dollars. But only buy it if your into the genre.

Pretty Shweet Menu Concept

This is the site for a Reebok shoe I found off of the Webby online site, it was awarded for best use of flash/motion graphics.
